About

Games

I’ve been developing games since 1991 for publishers such as Microsoft, Activision and Electronic Arts, among others. I’ve built three videogame startups in addition to managing internal studios at Activision and Maxis. I’ve also personally designed over 20 titles for pc, console, web and mobile platforms and managed dozens more.

I was one of the founding directors of the IGDA and sat on the advisory board for the Austin Game Conference.

I’m busy planning the next big thing, but I do occasionally consult on design and management issues.

For a list of games I’ve designed, look here.

Photography

I had the good fortune to have a darkroom in my home when I was growing up in Northern California.  I learned how to process film and prints, and had my own SLR at the age of 10, but did little more than dabble in photography until recently.

At the end of 2005 I spent 11 days in the Galapagos. I took 2600 photos, and the end result inspired me to delve deeper into the art of photography. Since then I’ve shot over 50,000 images and expanded my portfolio beyond wildlife to include subjects as diverse as sports, music, fashion and modern dance.

My time is more important to me than whether the gig is paid or TFP.  So be interesting and willing to be creative if you’d like to shoot with me.  And come ready to contribute — I’m one of those types who thinks photography is a collaborative process.  It’s awful dull when it’s just one person’s vision.

My portfolio can be found here.

A larger, expanded portfolio of my work can be found on flickr.

Sand Volleyball

I picked up sand (beach) volleyball a few years ago and have been addicted to the sport ever since. If you happen to be in Austin, you can usually find me playing doubles at Aussies, Zilker or one of the other local courts 4 or 5 days a week.
